We are building an interdisciplinary research paper on participant agency — examining how people in clinical research can meaningfully access, understand, govern, and use their own wearable, remote-monitoring, and AI-derived data.

Today, most participants hand over their data and never see it again. We think that model is overdue for change. This study asks: what happens when participants are treated as partners, not passive data sources?

Bringing together experts, researchers, clinicians, and MedTech leaders from the MedTech Ahead community, the goal is a practical framework that future clinical trials, digital health systems, and policymakers can actually use.
